Little Red Riding Hood

Below are the final slides for my Little Red Riding Hood visual development presentation. Some good, some bad. Overall I'm proud of what I've accomplished and am excited to keep moving forward. :)

A huge thank you to the folks at Animation Collaborative for setting up this class and an even bigger thank you to Master Artist Armand Baltazar for leading a great class, sharing loads of experience and insight and bringing in Steve Pilcher to critique our final presentations!

Mermaid

Mermaids are something I've always gravitated toward. They're almost a default that I return to when I don't know what else to draw but just need to put pencil to paper... or when taking notes during lecture, on the bus, or at when I'm at home procrastinating on packing my bags for CTN-X :)

I also tend to draw bears as a 2nd default...

so naturally why not draw a MERBEAR!?! haha.

Or would it be a Bearmaid? or a mermbear? mergrizzly? Lol.

2013 Calendars Available

My desk at work is a small space so I made a small calendar to decorate the area. :)
I also need to make a few notes, so I included a space for that as well.

These will be available at my table (#836) at APE too.

APE 2011 Prints

3 new prints that will be selling exclusively at the Alternative Press Expo this year! (Oct 13 & 14) I will have a bit more stuff too so swing by table #836 if you get a chance!
My new series is focusing on small life moments, seasons and intertwining my illustration style and love of typography.
Ever felt like kicking off your boots and dancing in the rain? I did and it was amazing. I still love puddle jumping.
This little cat isn't a fan of rain or puddle jumping. He's a traveling cat who is trying to keep that lovely coat fluffy.

Everything Stops for Tea

Working on a series of ink paintings of animals. Thought it'd be boring with just animals and my intention, when they are finished, is to display them all together so I wanted to make them interact a bit. I think I'll push it a bit more though with the next few animals.

Updated Mrs. Cratchitt from A Christmas Carol

She is such a lovely character who in the book doesn't get much time, but I imagine she'd be very motherly, endearing and slightly tired with all those Cratchitt boys. Original post:

These designs were done as part of Shane Prigmore's Creative Workshop Design Challenge.

Butterfly Kisses

About this piece:
My grandmother has a beautiful rosebush that always has butterflies fluttering around it. As a kid I would sometimes wait near it and see if a butterfly would come and "kiss" my hand. Of course, I was never patient enough to stay still too long and creeping up on butterflies doesn't work too well. However, that never discouraged me from dreaming about having all those beautiful and delicate butterflies flutter down and bless me with a kiss or surround me with their wonder.

That is what this piece is about. It's the feeling of a wish, or the memory of life's small wonders, the spark of a child's imagination and the beauty of it all being carried by the wind.

This is an original art piece created by Alishea Gibson. (Original sketch not included.)

Unexpected Kiss

©Alishea Gibson 2012 This frisky frog isn’t getting what he bargained for today. A lovely swimmer girl stops his advances mid-pucker.
Close up of swimmer girl's flower.
Close up of smooching frog.
Close up of some bubbles and the background texture.
Check out that 3D effect!

There's a lot that goes into the creative process, but in a nutshell, here's where I started and where I ended up! Pretty cool, eh?
